Fisher Towers Rafting: Moab Youth Trips

Fisher Towers trips are available to book as a private group/charter trip for the 2024 season. Group sizes should be between 12-20 guests; please call us (800-624-6323) for more information on booking this trip!

Moab’s Fisher Towers trip is a great youth trip option. It’s especially good for young children you might like to gently introduce to the magic of running rivers. Just minutes from downtown Moab, Utah, Holiday’s Fisher Towers trip lets you and your youth group get your feet wet. Experience the drama and scenery of Utah’s classic red rock landscape. Float the famous Colorado River through mild, yet fun, rapids. Spend just one night sleeping in a tent or under the stars, and be back to civilization before you even start to miss it.

Rugged, red sandstone walls ring the Colorado River as it flows through an open valley at the foot of the La Sal Mountains. The mountains are 12,000 feet tall, and often have snowy peaks well into July. The contrast of green, white, and red against blue sky is spectacular. Watch for bald eagles, great blue herons, geese, and red-tailed hawks. The landscape is mesmerizing, and so is the river. There’s plenty of flat water perfect for swimming and playing with stand-up paddleboards and inflatable kayaks. Relax on one of our oar-rafts and just go with the flow. There are also plenty of Class I and II rapids and riffles to keep things splashy. Beginner rafting trips don’t get easier than the Fisher Towers!

In a gesture of respect and honor for the Indigenous people who have lived on and cared for the Colorado River through the Fisher Towers and Moab area, Holiday acknowledges these lands and waterways are the traditional homelands of the Núu-agha-tʉvʉ-pʉ̱ (Ute) people. Just downstream of the Colorado River’s confluence with the Dolores River, the Colorado passes under the remains of the historic Dewey Bridge and heads south toward Moab, Utah. Float beneath the iconic Fisher Towers, mudstone monoliths jutting from the canyon walls. Also known as Professor Valley, this open section of canyon is what’s left of a massive salt dome that collapsed millions of years ago. The river flows past the 12,000-foot-tall La Sal Mountains and leaves us at Take Out Beach, ten miles north of Highway 191 and Moab.

Sample Itinerary

Day 1:

Depending on your group’s needs, we’ll meet either at Lion’s Park, just north of Moab, or at the Dewey Bridge Campground and Boat Ramp, at approximately 9:00 a.m. Be sure to speak to your reservationist about what works best for your group. We’ll get you outfitted with personal flotation devices and orient you to life on the water, and then we’re off! Float leisurely through calm water to start. Look for bald eagles, beavers, great blue herons, and night herons. We’ll pause for lunch and maybe some sandcastle building on a beach along the way. Camp within sight of the 12,000-foot Sierra La Sal and Fisher Tower formations; the openness of the river corridor makes for a stunning, expansive view of both sunset and sunrise.

Day 2:

Now approaching  Class I and II rapids! These are great fun for inflatable kayaks. Pass beneath Castle Rock and the Priest-and-Nuns formation before lunch near White’s Rapid, the biggest of the trip. Our vans await at the aptly named Take Out Beach, where we’ll load up our gear and drive you back to your vehicles (arrangements can also be made to shuttle your vehicles to the take out). We aim to be at the take out at 2:00 p.m. From Take Out Beach back to Highway 191 is a 15 minute drive.

The itinerary of any river trip is always planned with maximum flexibility. Each trip will vary depending on weather, water flows, your group’s interests, and the need to be courteous to other rafters. This is only a sample itinerary for a two-day Fisher Towers trip on the Colorado River.

An amazing experience, far different than any other regular vacation I have ever taken! The guides were fantastic, food was amazing, and it was very neat to be in the middle of nowhere yet feel taken care of and safe.

I would want the same guides next time for sure!!!! The whole staff from beginning to end was over the top AMAZING!!!! I am sure that my mom and I drove the office staff Lauren and Karen crazy with all of our phone calls and crazy questions. The guides made the WHOLE trip!! TJ, Sherpa, T-bird, Josh and Jim. The guys were so fun and at the same time so professional. My mother that was on the trip with me is 71 and ALL the guides went above and beyond to make sure she had what she needed to be comfortable and safe. The food they made was amazing and fresh and the hikes and storytelling was so interesting. I would so do this again and would hope to have the same guides!!!!!!

Thank you all for taking great care of me and my mother!!!!!
