2024 Wilderness First Aid Courses:

Wilderness Advanced First Aid (WAFA) | 4/30 – 5/3

The 4-day (36-hour) WAFA provides a great entry point into the world of wilderness medicine and is the perfect option for folks who aren’t necessarily responsible for guiding groups, but might be assisting a Wilderness First Responder in the field.

  • Did You Know? Really want the WFR, but are pressed for time? Start with the WAFA this spring and come back within three years to “Bridge” your certification up to a Wilderness First Responder!

WAFA to WFR Bridge | 5/5 – 5/8

Do you have a current WAFA certification? Are you ready for more? Join our 4-day  (36-hour) “Bridge” course to build on training you learned in your WAFA and upgrade to a Wilderness First Responder.

  • Did You Know? Once you upgrade to a WFR, the investment to maintain your credential is 2- or 3- in-person days every 3 years.

Wilderness First Responder (WFR) | 4/30 – 5/8 (no class 5/4)

Ready to go all in? Spend 8 full days (70-hours) of engaging in-person discussion and skills practice during our Wilderness First Responder. No previous medical experience required, we’ll get you all the info you need.

  • Did You Know? Our course spans 9 days with one day off in the middle to use as you please—we recommend exploring our awesome local surroundings (and can tell you where to go)!

Wilderness First Responder Hybrid Recertification | 4/26 – 4/27

You worked hard to earn your certification… work hard to keep it! Prevent your WFR from expiring with our 2-day Hybrid WFR Recertification (minimum 12-hours online + 16 hours in-person) course. As long as your current WFR is from a company that offered a 70- hour WFR course (with at least 45 of those hours in person) OR your most recent WFR Recertification course had a minimum of 16-hours of in-person instruction, you’re eligible!

  • Did You Know? Holiday River Expeditions offers the 2-day Hybrid WFR Recertification to maximize our in-person time together while meeting the needs of busy students. The course requires a minimum of 12 hours of self-paced, online work be completed prior to the in-person portion of the class. Questions? Plan to meet your instructor at 8:00am on the first morning of your course. Bring a refillable mug, ‘cause at Holiday we know “HOT COFFEE!” (…don’t worry, you’ll get it).

Note: For this course, you do not need to meet the night before.

Full details of your course, like what to expect and what to bring, will be included in your confirmation email from your instructor, but here are a few details to help you plan:

  • Be ready for full days of active learning… no matter the weather. Temperatures in late April in the desert can vary, so bring layers, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a bottle for water!
  • There will be a 30-60 min break for lunch depending on group needs. Bring your own or we’d be happy to offer local recommendations on the best eats around town.
  • As far as lodging goes, there are many hotel options in the area. Call our office for recommendations. With advanced permission, we also have a designated area you can set up to camp in your car, van, tent, etc. Just ask!

I don’t like giving all fives on these but I have zero complaints. The class was incredibly well run and you made it so fun to learn and are such an interesting person and great to spend 8 days with.
