Join Holiday River Expeditions for a once-in-a-lifetime river adventure with acclaimed author and naturalist Craig Childs. As part of our annual River Read Author Series, this special trip combines the magic of rafting Utah’s Labyrinth Canyon on the Green River with evening conversations inspired by Craig’s latest book, The Wild Dark: Finding the Night Sky in the Age of Light.
Each day, we’ll drift through the canyons of the wild and scenic Green River, exploring hidden side canyons, ancient rock art, and sweeping desert vistas. Guests can paddle their own inflatable kayak or stand-up paddleboard, or relax in a comfortable oar raft rowed by our experienced guides. Along the way, short hikes lead to scenic viewpoints, historical sites, and quiet alcoves perfect for reflection.
As night falls, under the moon and stars, Craig will lead thought-provoking discussions about light, darkness, and our relationship with the heavens. His storytelling, like his prose, brings new depth to the landscape and to the night sky.
As an added bonus, Craig will give a multi-media presentation at the River History Museum in Green River the evening before the trip. He will talk about the inspiration for his new book and share stories from the journey that serves as its narrative.
