Westwater Canyon with The Wasatch Valley Drifters

Our headquarters in Green River, Utah will serve as the meeting point at 8:00 a.m., Mountain Time.

We’ll issue your waterproof bags and answer any last minute questions. You can shop at our on-site store at this time (see our packing checklist for a list of items we stock). We will give a brief orientation before loading up into our vans for the two hour ride east on I-70 to the put-in at Loma, Colorado.

The first section of the trip will be in Ruby Canyon, characterized by smooth sandstone walls and unique pillars. The water is calm at first, with a few small rapids, perfect for playing around with inflatable kayaks or stand-up paddle boards. A side hike up Rattlesnake Canyon reveals a variety of desert plants and wildlife. 

At camp, after the guides cook your first riverside meal, we’ll gather for an evening of toe-tappin’ live music.

Wake up with hot coffee and breakfast as the sun lights up the red rock of Ruby Canyon. Keep a look out for river otter, bighorn sheep, and bald eagles as we float downstream. We may find an overlook to hike up to, a side canyon to explore, or tie the boats together for a floating mid-day concert.

We’ll enjoy another night of camping in Ruby Canyon as the stars twinkle to the tunes of The Wasatch Valley Drifters.

Enjoy another peaceful morning of floating before reaching the Ranger Station. From there, the river begins to narrow as it enters the black rock canyon of Westwater itself. The rapids will begin to get bigger, which means even more fun in the inflatable kayaks!

We will camp just upstream of the biggest rapids, deep within Westwater Canyon, and savor a steak dinner before our final evening concert.

Once we’ve gotten properly splashed, we can sit back and look for bald eagles, great blue herons, and even an occasional big horn sheep before stopping for one last lunch on the river.

We aim to be at the Cisco boat ramp by 2:00. After loading boats and gear, we’ll make the 45-minute drive back to Green River. We typically return between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m.
