New and Classic Adventures for 2023 Offer Workshops on Kayaking,
Mountain Biking, Watercolor Artistry a,nd Stargazing

SALT LAKE CITY, UT, Feb. 28, 2023 – Holiday River Expeditions has more than just an adventure of a lifetime up its sleeves for the 2023 river rafting and mountain biking season.

Kayak WorkshopRecognizing that for some go-getters the idea of actually relaxing while on vacation may be a turnoff, this active adventure company is pairing opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts to learn new skills while on vacation.

“We have simply expanded opportunities for our most inquisitive and active guests,” says Karen Johnson, veteran Holiday office manager since 1991. She assures that the vacation will remain fully catered and relaxing, but guests can also learn new skills and grow as a human being.

These new learning adventures are in response to an explosion of interest in immersive outdoor experiences. At the same time, they reflect what the company’s founders, Dee and Sue Holladay, knew from the onset.

Says Johnson, “A segment of our clientele was looking for more than a trip through a river canyon. They wanted to learn about the region’s history and geology and hear the stories of the earliest river runners. Our very first learning trip was called Ghosts Boats and we also offered a learning trip with Ute elder and spiritual leader, Clifford Duncan. Over the past 50 years, these opportunities have evolved into what we offer today. We still incorporate history, and geology into all of our trips and make sure our guests appreciate that they are traveling through Indigenous lands.”

The following is a list of learning opportunities available for summer 2023:

Stargazing TripsSince 2018 Holiday River Expeditions has been wowing guests on its Dark Sky Stargazing Trips with Tom Beckett, board chair of Salt Lake City’s Clark Planetarium and moonlighting part-time guide for Holiday River Expeditions. He creates for guests the spell-binding world above us in up to 60-minute structured programs focusing on constellation origin stories, the science of it all and much more. He comes with a telescope, laser pointer and often a sun scope. These nocturnal adventures are possible because during the day, the trails that guests bike and the rivers they raft traverse are some of the darkest, most remote corners of Utah and Colorado, including two International Dark Sky Parks: Canyonlands National Park and Dinosaur National Monument.
