It’s more than a river trip, it’s a trifecta: music, yoga and an all women’s float

“There are river trips. There are yoga trips on the river. There are women’s river trips. But this is all three of those…and more,” says Jenny Palmer, a 500-hour certified yoga instructor. “A woman’s river trip with yoga and live music. That’s lucky. You can taste it all!”

Jenny Palmer is a long time river enthusiast who teaches aerial yoga at Awaken Studios in Salt Lake City. “I’m all about connecting with your body and connecting with the earth,” she said about her style of practice, which makes her the perfect fit for the Holiday’s Women’s Rafting, Yoga & Music Trip in Lodore Canyon.

This trip is just as Jenny said, a lucky blend. It’s a special mix: world-class rafting through stunning red canyons, daily yoga practice on sandy beaches, live acoustic concerts under the stars, and a top notch all-female guide crew. It’s adventure and relaxation, community and solitude, challenge and ease.

The live music comes from Emily Hicks, a Utah-based, country Americana singer songwriter. She blends folk, country, and pop, writing lyrics grounded in her experiences as a woman. She plays acoustic guitar and has a powerhouse voice. She’ll be singing original songs and sharing the stories behind them.

Your Days Will Flow Like This

Jenny and Emily will bring their talents and skills to the river side on this incredible trip. Here’s some of what you can expect.

rafting music yogaWake up your body as the canyon wakes up around you. You’ll stretch, breath, and set intentions for the day while the sun warms your face. You’ll fill your lungs with crisp, wild air. You’ll hear wind rustling the willows, and while you’re laying in shavasana you’ll also get to enjoy the dulcet tones of Emily’s guitar.

“Live music: you don’t get that in a studio!” Jenny piped up. You also don’t get private waterfall concerts, or mid-hike meditation sessions with gorgeous vistas. Emily will even serenade you while you float! “If someone asked, I would play,” Emily said of her first trip as Holiday’s musician.

“I take a lot of my inspiration from the outdoors,” she said, “I already feel really connected to nature musically and artistically. It feels exciting to be in such a beautiful place, sharing my own music with eager listeners. It feels natural. Freeing.” This experience was shared by listeners. There’s no better place to listen and contemplate then the banks of a river.

It’s About Connection

When reflecting on the previous year’s trip, both Emily and Jenny emphasized how special it was. “Yoga and music are both community oriented activities, which invited us to talk to each other and connect in a big group,” Emily reflected.

Jenny added, “Plus, there’s an absence of ego on a women’s trip. It creates the freedom to show up as you are and really connect with each other. I talked deeply with everyone on the trip. No matter who they showed up with, everyone branched out and connected. People come because they want to make connections, to get to know one another, and have good conversations.”

The combination of nature, meditative practices, and thought-provoking lyrics puts everyone in a reflective mood ready to discuss real life, share stories, and build friendships.

This trip provides ample opportunities to engage and participate, but there’s never any pressure to. “No hurt feelings if you don’t want to do yoga!” Jenny said with a laugh, “Or if you just want to lay on the mat and take a nap, that’s great, too!” She confided she didn’t like yoga the first time she tried it, but she’s grateful she gave it a second try.

Out in nature, with a supportive group of women is the perfect place to get out of your comfort zone and try something new! (Speaking of trying something new: Jenny is also certified in sound healing. She’ll be bringing her tuning forks for energetic sound healing sessions!)

Ready to Flow?

“It can be intimidating and scary to go on your trip by yourself, but that’s not a thing here,” Jenny assures. “If you’re a single woman or you want to travel alone, this is a perfect first step.”

Emily agrees: “You don’t have to make any decisions. You just show up and relax!”

Whether you’re a seasoned rafter, or new to the game, whether you have a daily yoga practice or have never tried it—you belong here! Our all-female crew is ready to guide you through the canyon walls, while Emily and Jenny guide you through the music and the yoga.

If you’re ready to experience a floating concert in nature’s amphitheater, if you are eager to do yoga to nature’s soundtrack, if you’re stoked to connect with other women, all while rafting through the beautiful backcountry…well, we’ll see you on the river!
