Legendary Cataract Canyon lies buried in the heart of Utah’s Canyonlands National Park. Our whitewater rafts offer fun and exciting transportation to side canyon grotto’s, waterfalls and ancient Pueblo ruins that are otherwise inaccessible. On this river rafting vacation we see the most vivid contrast between serene tranquility and all-out high adventure.

During the first segment of our Colorado river rafting trip the fast-moving current slides us quietly past brilliantly colored cliffs and towering table-top mesas. Here the river conditions both body and soul, giving you time to prepare yourself for the behemoth whitewater rapids awaiting below the confluence of the Green and Colorado rivers.

Nowhere on its entire course does the Colorado River descend more precipitously than through Cataract Canyon. On night three of our river rafting adventure, the Colorado River will not rest. The roar of the cataracts will lull you to sleep, dance in your dreams, only to awaken you the next morning with a new song. Time to batten down the hatches and hold on because this is Cataract Canyon whitewater rafting at its best. Twenty-three BIG ONES, among them Mile Long, Ben Hurt and the grand-daddy of them all, The Big Drops, which is a succession of three heavy-hitters that will leave you laughing and cheering. We move 30 feet closer to sea level in less than a mile.  Colorado River Rafting trips through Cataract Canyon begin in May and run through September.

Like Exploring Another Planet

Aug 27, 2015 by Jim & Florence Meyering

A family vacation with memories for a lifetime. The scenery is breathtaking and we saw so few people during our trip that we really felt we were on another planet. Our three guides were working hard for six days straight, from early morning to evening and yet, they were always cheerful. I would highly recommend everyone to take a rafting trip at least once in their life.

Can't Wait For Another River Adventure!

Aug 25, 2015 by Robert Kirch

The whole experience for our family was better than expected. The guides all went out of their way to make us comfortable, well fed and entertained with tons of fun and adventures. We can't wait to book another trip with Holiday River Expeditions next year!

Gorgeous Stars & Intense Whitewater

Aug 20, 2015 by Katherine Hartman

This trip was awesome! I had so much fun getting to know the other guests and guides. As a solo traveler, I was a little nervous but all of that evaporated once we got on the river. Leaving my phone and computer behind and embracing the calm of the canyon was exactly what I needed. The food was tasty, the stars were beautiful and the whitewater was intense! I can't wait to plan my next trip with Holiday.

Duckies & Paddle Board Fun

Aug 20, 2015 by David & Carla Scheidlinger

We loved the duckies and inflatable stand up paddle boards. What a great combination: a lazy ducky float on the Green and BIG water triple rig down Cataract Canyon. The walk to the petroglyphs was outstanding. We hardly saw any other parties on either river and found our companions on the Glen Canyon Institute trip to be inspiring. Brin was an excellent trip leader. I was thrilled to be able to spend some time with Tim and even row with him in flat water for a bit. Bryan is an amazing young man with many talents. We hope to see at least some of these folks on the San Juan next year. Thank you all SO much!

High Adventure & High Class Rapids!

Aug 20, 2015 by Anita Slater & Patrick Crotty

I loved the triple rig setup, it gave us room to move around and not feel cramped on one boat. I loved the class V rapids, chance of a lifetime. It was a true getaway. So decadent with amazing meals, lounging around and soaking in the amazing scenery mixed with high adventure and red dust. Guides were awesome and patient. Can they come with us car camping?

Mind Blowing Archaeology

Jun 15, 2015 by Rachelle Moore

The hiking and camping in the Canyonlands is by far some of the best ever. The local bats help eliminate the mosquitoes and biting flies. The camp spots were killer. Even the placement of bathrooms made all experiences magical. Our tour guides were top notch. Zack was a strong communicator and made me feel safe during the rapids. Ben was extremely knowledgeable and caring. I Saw him helping one of the kids with a hurt toe and he was an excellent medic. Jules is wicked smart. He was helpful with any questions we had about our maps and the surrounding landscapes. Collin was especially entertaining - his songs and guitar skills were amazing. However, the top highlight of the trip for me was hiking to the archaeological sites. They are mind blowing and so remote. I really got to enjoy the structures and petroglyphs up close and personal. This was less of a "rafting trip" in my mind and was more of an archaeological expedition without the digging, a pleasant surprise. Thanks so much!

great new season

May 17, 2015 by Barb Retzlaff

We just returned from a five-day trip to Cataract Canyon. Loved it, recommend it! Guides so personable, capable, hard working, and knowledgeable. Management, equipment, food & bev, hikes and rapids all terrific.

The Guides Instilled Confidence In Me

Oct 18, 2014 by Bob & Carolyn Hoffman

The guides were super patient with me. I rode with Susan on the rapid days because she took the time to explain how to hold on and told me I would be fine (I was a little nervous). Susan and Dave were particularly patient with me when we negotiated a slot canyon. I had never done anything like it before. They never showed any doubt that I could do it, and I did! The 8 days flew by. The trip was a fabulous opportunity to leave my stress behind and to live in the moment with nature.

In The Heart Of Nature With No Motor

Oct 06, 2014 by Mary Gavan

The guides were always friendly, happy and eager to make our trip safe, fun and relaxing. I commend them, they work really hard. There were opportunities to hike each day or just relax in camp. Also, there were options to use the inflatable kayaks in the rapids. No pressure. I must really commend Holiday for the food, and of course, the guides who did all the cooking. It isn't easy to satisfy the many palates of people but you guys did a great job of it. All the fresh veggies and fruit make a healthy meal. Thank you. I have been rafting and kayaking rivers since the early 1980's - all private trips. This was my first commercial river trip. I was apprehensive about commercial river trips because most of them use motors and I did not want to be in the heart of nature listening to a motor. Another concern of mine was: how experienced are the guides? The first day or two of the trip I watched carefully and spent time on each boat, thinking, I want to be on the boat with the best guide when we run the rapids. In my humble opinion, all guides were equally experienced. From that time on I didn't care whose boat I was on in the rapids. And so: I relaxed in camp, hiked, ate great food and enjoyed the beauty of Glen Canyon from my reclined position on the boat. I had no work; like cooking or setting up the kitchen, rigging or unrigging the boat, and no groover duty. I can get used to this! Thanks.

Zero Light Pollution Makes For The BEST Star Gazing

Sep 28, 2014 by David Yackey

Julian, Rocky and Jordan were great. They were very communicative and knowledgeable. I enjoyed their company and what they could share about the area on the river and on the hikes. The trip was fantastic. It was a great combination of relaxing river floating, good rapids, and a variety of hiking opportunities. It was great to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life and get out into nature and see its beauty and power. Being away from all of the light pollution and being able to see all of the stars you normally can't was awesome.
