Salmon River Rafting

Salmon River RaftingThe Salmon River cuts through the heart of Idaho's "River of No Return" wilderness, the largest wilderness area in the lower 48 states. This is seriously wild and rugged country. Its challenging whitewater intimidated even Lewis and Clark and their companions, forcing them to shift their famous expedition north through the Bitterroot Valley. The wilderness area protects 100 miles of canyon and river - thought by many to be the ultimate whitewater trip.

Salmon River Rafting: Main Salmon River

Cutting the second deepest canyon in North America, the Salmon River is a clear mountain river with pine forests and white sandy beaches. The canyon abounds in deserted homesteads and, of special interest to river travelers, natural hot springs. One crowd appreciates this roadless country even more than us; deer, bighorn sheep, moose, birds of prey, elk, bear and the frolicking river otter call this refuge home. Translucent emerald water, responding to the drop and irregularities of the river bottom, form over forty rapids. That means you have first class whitewater on each day of this Salmon River rafting trip.

Salmon River Rafting: Lower Salmon River Canyons

This section of the mighty Salmon River guides us through four stunning canyons Green, Cougar, Snowhole and Blue Canyons - as the surroundings change from sheer rock canyons to rolling mountains plated in golden grass. At high water, this Salmon River rafting trip offers huge standing waves and chomping rapids that command the attention of whitewater enthusiasts. Later in the summer, the Lower Salmon calms down inviting families to enjoy warm water, white sandy beaches and family-friendly rapids.
