The Salmon River cuts through the heart of Idaho’s River of No Return Wilderness, the largest wilderness area in the lower 48 states. This is wild and rugged country. Its challenging whitewater intimidated Lewis and Clark, forcing them to take their famous expedition north by horseback through the Bitterroot Valley. The wilderness area protects 100 miles of canyon and river – thought by many to be the ultimate whitewater rafting trip.

Lower Salmon River Rafting

Raging rapids attract rafters to the lower Salmon River during high water. Later in the season the river calms down and is suitable for families and those who are looking for a more mild adventure. It offers stunning scenery as it cuts through Green, Cougar, Snowhole and Blue canyons – which change from steep-walled gorges to rolling mountains.

Snake River Rafting in Hells Canyon

Hells Canyon, on the Idaho/Oregon border, is a 7,000-foot deep abyss forged by the mighty Snake River. This rafting trip offers big rapids, plus outstanding opportunities to view wildlife and historic and cultural sites, including Nez Percé pictographs and rough-hewn pioneer dwellings.
