Welcome to the Salmon River. I know there are many reasons why the Main Salmon section is called the River of No Return but I have my own theory also. No matter how you travel down this river, raft, kayak, hike or swim, you will not return the same.
I have been rafting for over 30 years and the first time I floated the Main Salmon in 1997, my life was changed forever. I found something in my heart I did not know existed. I am not sure that I can tell you what it was but I know it is still there. It resembles a flower that opens to the sun and never dies. It changed me in so many ways I did not always recognize them for many years. I kept coming back and knew that one day this would be my home. Now, it finally is and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else in the world.
There is a magic in this river canyon that you cannot find anywhere else. Perhaps it is the energy from the many who have gone before us, the love of those who first found it or the thrills it provides; the opportunities to release fear and find new courage.
Rivers are the arteries of our planet earth, bringing life to all her nooks and crannies as well as feeding our oceans and housing fish and many other forms of life. Spending 5 days immersed in a river of this magnitude and energy will cause you to grow and blend your life and your love into something special to take home with you.
Now all that is just a float down the river. When you take that magic and combine it with spiritual teachings the experience is magnified beyond your belief. I have been leading retreats for just over 10 years and the last 3 on river trips on this river. I can tell you, as can many of my participants that the experience of self-realization that happens on this trip will change and enhance your life for many years to come. Learning how to live in a place of joy every day, no matter what is going on around you is just one of the skills you will walk away with.
