River Currents Blog

River Currents is a blog open to many voices that have had a connection with the river and our trips. You’ll hear the voice of veteran river-runner and Holiday founder Dee Holladay, the voice of guides whose lives have been shaped by their time on the river, and guests who bring the perspectives that remind us why we’re still making these trips happen 45 plus years later. You’ll also hear from our regular blog contributors, Peta Owens-Liston, Joe Ballent, Derek Farr & Julie Trevelyan.

Family Fun Rafting Trips

By Julie Trevelyan

Whitewater river rafting is an exciting experience the whole family can share. Whether you have little ones or teens, timid youngsters or kids who embody the meaning of gung-ho, there’s a rafting trip out there for all of you.

Some great benefits of going on a family river rafting vacation:

Family bonding time. A family rafting trip creates unique memories, and the logistics mean you’ll be spending time together in close proximity with no outside distractions. In our hyperfast-paced, über-connected world, gloomy statistics show families share as little as 3.5 minutes per day in meaningful conversation. We can see that statistic happily quadruple in the space of a single hour during a multi-day river rafting trip.

Relaxing into the slow, natural pace of things. On a rafting trip, the time spent in nature without modern conveniences/distractions such as cell phones and television can help your body’s circadian rhythms ease back into a more natural, less hectic pace. That’s a positive aspect each family member can appreciate (whether they think they will or not!).

Uniquely memorable trip. This isn’t going to be a trip to yet another overwhelming amusement park or crowded beach. A family whitewater rafting vacation is an unusual adventure that will linger in everyone’s memory. In fact, families often enjoy their river trip so much, they return annually.

Holiday offers family rafting trips on both Utah white water and Idaho white water. We offer calmer trips over placid rivers as well as thrilling whitewater excursions. Plus, we feed and entertain you and enjoy your company as much as we hope you enjoy ours. Our suggested minimum age is five, and our suggested fun factor is out of this world. Come join us for a family rafting vacation and see what it’s all about!
